Success: USB Studio with MacOS 9 Audio Update The compatibility problem with Swissonic's USB Studio and MacOS 9 has been solved by Apple with the audio update now downloadable from Apple's web site. According to Swissonic spokespersons, “We have successfully tested recording and playback with different software. There are still some driver initialization problems with certain applications, such as Logic Audio. Swissonic says Emagic has “ . . . received a testing unit to make Logic work. We expect them to fixed the problem with an update very soon.” “In some cases the USB standard is not yet fully supported by some applications simply because there were no USB audio hardware to support until now...” The Mac OS 9 Audio Update provides improved USB audio support for computers using Mac OS 9, and, as Apple is quick to point, provides support for the Harman Kardon iSub speaker. This is also the key to future driver releases for many manufacturer’s USB audio products. Also, this update enhances playback for DVD movies. The update includes MacOS ROM 3.2.1, USB Audio Extension 1.0.1 and Apple Audio Extension 1.0. This will do nothing for computers that have USB support only through a PCI card. Your computer must have built-in USB ports.
