By: Cris Dunnam, Editor The new compact rackmount mixer with USB digital audio interface may ship with Bias-Inc., about shipping the USB studio D with a 'Light' version of Deck or Peak, according to Swissonic America's Geoffrey Clegg. The plethora of inputs make for what our editors have described as the "Swiss Army Knife" of audio input to iMac via USB. Combining Peak and or Deck with this product is a very good idea, as we have singled first generation iMacs (particularly Revs. C & D) as ideal two-track mastering stations for with the proper software. Why not just use iMac's built-in audio I/O? Well, there's no mixing without a mixer. Plus, there's all that mess with a variety of audio adapters for various input sources that one will repeatedly plug and unplug to the point of failure. Daniel Feusi, the technical brain of Swissonic AG (Switzerland), has cleared up some confusion as to exactly what kind of products are the USB Studio & Studio D: ". . . a complete analog mixer, with USB AD/DA converter. The USB Studio D has an extra AD/DA converter for digital connection. The mixer has no USB automation control. We use USB only for digital audio transmission."
