Digital Harmony Pushes FireWire Closer to Home . . .

Digital Harmony's controlling middleware and GUI, the Digital Harmony Composer, can be run on Mac platforms (from MacWorld SF 2k).

"Mac users around the globe will value the ability to network an iMac into a home theater system and, with Digital Harmony, iMac owners will find the same sort of ease of use and ease of set-up that made the iMac famous," says Mark Bridgwater, vice president of marketing at Digital Harmony Technologies.

Showcasing its strength in digital device interoperability, Digital Harmony Technologies Inc. demonstrated home theater command and control using its 1394-based Composer(tm) software running on Apple's(r) new iMac(tm) line at Digital Harmony's Las Vegas CES booth. Digital Harmony's Composer runs on iMac DV and iMac DV Special Edition to connect to and control devices using FireWire, the industry standard for high-speed digital audio and video transfer developed by Apple.

Digital Harmony worked with Apple Computer to create command and control drivers based on Digital Harmony's Composer driver software, for use in home theaters and audio/video production studios. Digital Harmony showed Apple's iMacDV in the first, multi-brand, multi-device, digital home entertainment system, establishing that its technology can connect to and control devices using Apple FireWire specification. According to company sources, “the Digital Harmony Reference System 2000(tm), when running on iMacs, is a milestone in home theater, bridging the gap between consumer electronics and home-based computing.”

The Digital Harmony Composer is a unique application that runs on a personal computer or digital assistant providing plug-and-enjoy set up and one-time configuration as it recognizes components in the audio/video system. Furthermore, the Composer gives users complete control of an entire Digital Harmony audio/video network via one interface. "Digital Harmony is committed to bring consumers the option to combine their favorite brands, devices and operating systems from leading players in the consumer electronics and computing industries . . .” says Bridgwater.

That’s what we like to hear!

"Apple has ushered in the era of desktop video with our iMovie software running on iMac DV and iMac DV Special Edition," said Clent Richardson, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. "With Digital Harmony's technology customers can now use the iMac to screen and control their own video creations, or download music and DVDs from the Internet to play directly on their home theater systems."

Based in Seattle, Digital Harmony Technologies Inc. sells standard hardware/firmware modules for adding high-speed 1394 interfaces to audio/video devices (e.g. DVD players, A/V receivers, televisions, etc.) Digital Harmony Certification Centers(tm) test all devices for compatibility before they are sold at retail; the Digital Harmony logo-the consumer's seal of approval-indicates that the device will operate harmoniously with others in a home entertainment system. Digital Harmony Technologies' customer list includes Boston Acoustics, Connect TV, Denon, harman/kardon, Meridian Audio, Onkyo, Panja and Peavey Electronics.
