Have you ever been to PARIS?

PARIS Pro, the 24-bit digital audio workstation from Emu/Ensoniq provides all of the hardware and software you need to record, edit and mix digital audio professionally. Together with a 16 channel control surface, 128-track playback, 64 bands of parametric EQ and a host of I/O options, PARIS Pro gives you "the most complete integrated digital audio solution on the market today at an affordable price."

We have been aware of PARIS for sometime, but until recently have considered it out of place with the majority of the market due to cost vs. performance. Not that PARIS has ever fallen short in performance. In fact many argue that this system is the sweetest sounding solution available. But in the past confusing pricing and configurations made it hard to justify.

Now that there are so very many audio solutions in the Mac PCI card market, it's easy to place PARIS in a category that fits. PARIS lives well in between the "almost there" entry-level solutions and the high end pro systems. Home and ametuer studio users can take a major leap forward in a turnkey system -- Pro users can have the high end features they demand and save about $10k over the "Industry Standard."

The Software:
Intuitive, intuitive, intuitive!

The PARIS Pro software gives you control by seamlessly integrating digital audio editing and mixing, signal routing, and effect processing into a single intuitive environment.

An inviting graphic user interface lets you ". . .do everything from recording your first track to mastering a complex final mix with integrated studio effects and automation." With PARIS Pro recording, arranging, and mixing are ". . . logical, intuitive, and lightning-fast (just what you would expect from award-winning Intelligent Devices who brought both their very substantial Digital Audio Workstation design experience and some remarkable new ideas to the PARIS Pro project.)"

"The interface is designed to be ready to work for you right out of the box, but it is also fully customizable! You control what appears on your screen. You can add EQs, move modules to the positions where you want them, and even decide how much detail is displayed in the mixer components (from full on-screen emulation of the physical controls to data-only displays for maximum density)."

The Card:
The EDS-1000X PCI card is a digital signal processing (DSP) array equipped with six of Emu/Ensoniq's most powerful proprietary ESP-2 signal processor chips configured to provide:

  • Recording and playback of 16 simultaneous tracks of 24-bit audio
  • Up to 24 channels of simultaneous 24-bit digital audio input and output
  • 64 multi-mode parametric EQ sections
  • Up to 16 simultaneous real-time effects
  • 180-point programmable digital patch bay
  • Master and slave sample clock compatibility with internal 44.1 and 48 kHz sample rates
  • As many as eight EDS1000x cards can be installed in one PARIS Pro system

The Big Box:
"
The Interface MEC (Modular Expansion Chassis) Pro includes a built-in Master Module containing a basic complement of four channel analog inputs and outputs, a two channel 24 bit digital input, a stereo headphone amplifier, external clock connectors used to synchronize PARIS Pro with other systems, an Interface 2 connector and an EDS Computer Interface connector. In addition, the MEC Pro contains a backplane which can support up to nine optional expansion modules. By adding optional modules to your MEC Pro, you can easily configure PARIS Pro for your specific needs as they grow or change offering you maximum flexibility. "

  • 5 unit rack-mountable steel chassis
  • Dimensions: 8.75"H x 19"W x 14"D
  • Weight: 25 lbs. (11.4 kg)
  • Nine slots for optional expansion modules

MEC Pro expansion modules include:

  • A8I Pro 8 24-bit analog inputs with TRS connectors
  • A8O Pro 8 24-bit analog outputs with TRS connectors

The Control Surface: (Shown at top)
A monitor level knob and dim/mute switch are provided for convenient control of the Interface module outputs for your control room monitors. The large weighted shuttle wheel can be used for scrub/jog, shuttle, and editing. The multi-function numeric keypad provides quick access and control for markers, screen views, and data entry. A complete set of dedicated transport buttons as well as full auto-locator and time marker support, including dedicated loop and punch function buttons, and make recording and editing faster, easier.
